Welcome to the National Provident Fund website
This site provides information about NPF and the 11 NPF superannuation schemes (the NPF schemes).
The NPF schemes are unique in New Zealand as they are Government guaranteed, which means members can always be sure their benefits are secure. All 11 NPF schemes are closed to new members. However, if you were a member of an NPF scheme on 31 March 1991 you may be eligible to join certain other NPF schemes.
Important Notices
In 2011, members of the Meat Industry Scheme and the Lump Sum National Scheme will have received a notice advising them of proposed changes to the trust deeds of each Scheme to introduce minimum account balances. Copies of these notices are attached.

Investment market volatility
Members will be aware, and perhaps even concerned, about recent upheavals in the investment markets. Members of the NPF schemes should not be alarmed by these events. While you are a member of your current NPF scheme, your benefit is guaranteed by the Government.
The Board monitors the funding position of all the NPF schemes on a regular basis. If the schemes ever reach the point where there are insufficient assets available to pay benefits when they fall due, a call will be made on the Government guarantee.
NPF's alternative to KiwiSaver
As an employee and a NPF member you can benefit from many of the attributes of KiwiSaver and receive the unique features that only NPF schemes provide:
- An earnings rate of at least 4% per annum, after tax and expenses
- Government guarantee of benefits
There are two NPF schemes that offer these benefits: the Locked-in sections of the Pension National Scheme and the Lump Sum National Scheme. Click here to read more.
Unclaimed Monies
NPF holds money for a number of members with whom contact has been lost. If you think some of this money may be yours click here to read more.
